The SEED School of Miami is a college-preparatory, public boarding academy created under Florida state law. The state law establishes criteria for students to be eligible to attend (see below for eligibility criteria).
If more students apply than the school can accommodate, admissions will be conducted via lottery. Students who are not selected for admission during the lottery will have the option of being included on a waiting list. Should space become available or capacity increases, students will be selected from the waiting list.
SEED Miami serves students in grades six through twelve.
eligibility criteria
The SEED School of Miami is committed to serve a population of students who most need a 24-hour learning environment.
Additionally, we will serve students who meet the following criteria:
Be a resident of the state & eligible to attend school in a participating school district,
Be eligible for the applying grade AND fall within the specified date of birth requirement (contact admissions for details),
Be from a family whose gross income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines, and
Be eligible for benefits or services funded by Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Title IV-E of the Social Security Act.
The student must also meet at least one of the following criteria:
The student resides in a household that receives a housing voucher or has been determined eligible for public housing assistance.
The student’s head of household is not the student’s custodial parent.
The child is covered under the terms of the state’s Child Welfare Waiver Demonstration project.*
The child is in foster care or has been declared an adjudicated dependent.
A member of the student’s immediate family has been incarcerated.
Given The SEED School of Miami’s unique 24-hour college-prep boarding school experience, additional factors must be considered to ensure the safety of all students and to ensure that SEED Miami is the most appropriate educational environment for each child. Therefore, in addition to the admissions criteria determined by the state, SEED Miami will evaluate the appropriateness of this school for students in the context of the following:
Safety: The student demonstrates an ability to ensure his or her own safety and the ability to maintain the safety of others on campus.
Services: The student’s academic, social, and emotional needs may reasonably be served by the SEED Miami staff, program, and resources.
Interest: The student and his/her guardians have indicated a desire to attend the school by voluntarily completing, submitting, and signing the application.
*We will have enrollment spots reserved for students who currently are living in the child welfare system.
