Plant a SEED Campaign
The SEED School of Miami (SEED Miami) is building a college preparatory campus to help support our nearly 400 6th through 12th grade scholars. The completed campus—built on a Miami-Dade County Public Schools property in Opa-Locka—will include academic, social, and recreational spaces where our students can live, learn, and thrive. It will also feature on-campus dormitories, which will be home to our students five days a week. The estimated cost of this project is $18.1 million. We invite you to join a community of leaders, philanthropists, and foundations who have made generous contributions to our Plant a SEED Campaign, making this dream campus a reality for our students.
SEED Miami is a college-preparatory public boarding school specifically designed to close the educational achievement gap for students from vulnerable communities. Some students need more support than they can receive within a traditional school day—that’s where SEED steps in. We believe some students need and deserve a 24-hour learning environment. Whether it is academic success or economic independence, SEED teaches students skills that will help them thrive after high school and into college and beyond. SEED Miami students board Sunday evenings through Friday afternoons and spend 80 hours per week with SEED Miami faculty. In classrooms, dorm meetings, dining halls, and evening study hall hours, students become strong, determined, and self-aware.
SEED is the first school of its kind in Florida, yet we follow two other successful SEED schools who are leading the way in college graduation rates in Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD. SEED alumni from those schools have gone on to graduate from Georgetown University, Tufts University, Case Western, University of Pennsylvania and many more outstanding institutions. Our educational model has already proven its success in increasing educational attainment and college graduation rates among students who traditionally struggle to finish college because of circumstances beyond their control.
The SEED approach not only helps transform the trajectory of our students’ lives, but also helps reshape families as well as entire communities. We build partnerships with our SEED families to cast a wide net of resources—everything from extra time working on a homework problem to help picking out a college that’s right for each student. But we are not done with high school graduation. Our College Transition Support Advisors continue to support our students through college to help ensure their successful graduation.
In order to replicate that success here in South Florida, we need a campus and we need your help. Please consider donating to the SEED School of Miami Plant a SEED Campaign. Your gift will help us build the home away from home our children deserve to help them thrive and achieve their full potential.
